Scope and Contents
The morgue files related to Liberia contain a wide range of materials, including photographs, newspaper clippings, correspondence, government publications, telegrams, transcripts, maps, wire articles, draft articles, event programs, pamphlets, and notes. The telegrams include communications from AFRO's managing editor, William N. Jones, during his 1933 assignment trip to Liberia. The photographs largely depict the 1952 inauguration of President William V.S. Tubman, along with images from Liberia's 1931 elections. Additionally, there is a significant collection of documents related to the Firestone Plantation land concession and the League of Nations crisis concerning Liberia's defaulted loan from Firestone and charges of slavery.
